Micro Beef Technologies Launches World Class
Animal Traceability Solution
Amarillo, Texas (June 30, 2005) – Micro Beef Technologies, Ltd., a leading beef industry technology innovator, today announced the launch of a world class, multi-species database system. This introduction significantly advances animal agriculture’s traceability efforts through an integrated information infrastructure that spans geographic and competitive boundaries.
“Traceability data can be shared electronically within a powerful central database system for verification, compliance and production management purposes,” said Mark Shaw, CEO of Micro Beef. ”Producers and processors now have the opportunity to receive these and other commercial benefits from individual animal identification and management systems with the assurance that the confidentiality and security interests of all industry stakeholders are preserved.”
Micro Beef provides unmatched qualifications, resources and significant intellectual property assets in the field of individual animal tracking and traceback. For more than ten years Micro Beef has supplied systems to the beef industry that are virtually identical to the system being developed for the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). The Micro Beef System combines animal identification and management expertise with strategic relationships with leading information technology companies like Oracle, AT&T, Dell and Verisign.
In preparation for an industry wide NAIS, Micro Beef, a founding member of the Beef Information Exchange (BIE), established data sharing standards to provide integration of different data collection systems that can communicate with its central database.
Micro Beef’s traceability system provides a simple means to securely and confidentially record, share, store and report traceback and verification data for its customers. Micro Beef has worked closely with leading national livestock associations, state and federal health authorities and members of Congress over the past two years to organize and implement a private sector solution for the NAIS. Micro Beef was recently selected by the State of Texas to supply the central database solution for the Texas NAIS pilot project, the largest NAIS project in the nation.
A national animal identification system will require the coordination and collaboration of numerous companies and organizations throughout animal agriculture including a close partnership with state and federal health authorities.
“Our customers have clearly stated their desire to self regulate and utilize private sector systems that protect and preserve their interests pertaining to premise and animal information. We believe in the free enterprise system and defending the constitutional rights of property owners,” said Bill Pratt, Founder and Chairman of Micro Beef. “Our system accomplishes these objectives now and is well positioned to meet traceability requirements on a state and national level to safeguard the interests of the national herd.”
Micro Beef is committed to advancing the interests of its customers, enhancing the value of the products their customers produce and uniquely qualified to meet the interests of industry stakeholders now and into the future.
“For over 35 years, we have been a forward looking, innovation-based company pioneering advanced computerized management technologies for farmers, ranchers, feeders and processors,” said Pratt. “We have a well-established reputation for developing breakthrough solutions for the beef industry and have successfully introduced more than 20 useful inventions that are today used by the majority of the fed beef industry.”
